DA Demands Urgent Action on Auditor-General Findings

Political pressure has intensified within the eMalahleni Local Municipality following revelations regarding institutional accountability and financial compliance.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has formally called upon Municipal Manager Sizwe Mayisela to immediately enforce corrective measures outlined by the Auditor-General (AG). According to municipal performance tracking reports, the local administration addressed only 4% of total findings raised during the previous auditing cycle—improvements that were isolated strictly within the Information Technology department. Particular concern was raised regarding environmental infrastructure, specifically the Ferrobank Wastewater Treatment Works, where mechanical breakdowns have continued to impact operational efficiency and environmental compliance.

DA Councillor Anthonie Brits voiced strong concerns over the current trajectory of administrative compliance.

“Residents of eMalahleni deserve transparency, accountability, and leaders that are responsive. This negligence and disregard for the Municipal Systems Act in eMalahleni cannot be tolerated any longer,” stated Brits.
