- The Eastern Cape Emalahleni Local Municipality was established and named first, officially coming into existence December 5, 2000.
- By contrast, our city Witbank was renamed eMalahleni several years later, on March 3, 2006.
20 years later, despite the city’s official renaming to eMalahleni in March 2006, many residents, businesses, and historical institutions still continue to use the name Witbank out of historical habit, linguistic familiarity, and institutional legacy.
