Highway Spiking Danger Prompts Regional Warning

If you regularly commute along the N4 or regional routes connecting Witbank and Gauteng, local safety groups are urging extreme vigilance.

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, local journalist Zita Goldswain reported that the Live Traffic Group issued an urgent advisory warning motorists about a sudden surge in highway spiking incidents. Criminals operating near the Bronkhorstspruit stretch are placing sharp objects and spiked traps across the road surface to force drivers to pull over into unlit shoulders, making them vulnerable to armed roadside robberies.

The Witbank Police and community watch networks are appealing to any motorists who have encountered metal spikes, spotted suspect vehicles idling near highway overpasses, or escaped similar trapping attempts to report exact GPS locations and times immediately.

Tips can be passed to local SAPS patrol units or forwarded to WitbankHub
