A Night of Pink and Resilience Painted With Hope

Sometimes a community decides to push back against the heaviest storms with a splash of color, a plate of good food, and an overwhelming wave of solidarity. That is precisely what happened when Witbank’s local dining scene traded its usual Friday night ambiance for a powerful shade of pink.

The popular restaurant Del Forno transformed into a glowing hub of compassion as it teamed up with local non-profit forces Bettie Bandana and HerEffekt to host the much-anticipated Night of Hope fundraiser. Designed specifically to celebrate local cancer survivors and rally financial support for patients currently navigating active treatment, the evening drew a crowd determined to make a tangible difference.

The initiative shined a bright light on the emotional and physical grit required to face life-altering illnesses. Speaking passionately about the grassroots mission, Isabel le Roux of Bettie Bandana—an organisation originally founded by Retha van Greunen to offer crucial encouragement, health checks, and guidance to families—emphasized the core driving force behind the work.

‘The organisation has been working for six years, raising funds and helping with awareness and health checks. We have a few partnerships to provide breast examinations and other support services. Today we celebrate cancer survivors and also raise funds’, Le Roux noted.

Adding an extra layer of warmth and encouragement to the evening, Olga De Jesus of Del Forno shared an uplifting message directly with the room full of fighters and supporters.

‘You are stronger than you think. We thank each and every one of you for being with us. Your love and support are truly appreciated’, De Jesus expressed.

Surrounded by local advocates like Wilma Jansen, the event served as a vibrant reminder that behind every clinical diagnosis in Witbank is a tight-knit community ready to lock arms, share a meal, and carry the heavy loads together.
