Trash piling up on sidewalks due to Municipal Fleet Crisis
Rubbish has been accumulating as inconsistent waste collection has hit the City of Coal for the last few months. Witbank residents are increasingly frustrated as uncollected trash builds up on the sidewalks.
On August 19, the DA, donning refuse bags, protested outside the Waste Management Depot, calling for immediate action as waste collection is weeks overdue.
They have sent a formal letter to Municipal Manager Sizwe Mayisela, questioning why residents are expected to pay for a service that isn’t being provided.
‘The residents of eMalahleni pay for municipal services and deserve to have those services delivered consistently, effectively, and responsibly’, stated Ward 20 councillor Maureen Scheepers.
Scheepers mentioned that reports suggest seven refuse trucks are currently in the workshop for repairs and maintenance.
